Privacy

No analytics, no ads, no tracking cookies. The only outside service this site can use is Adobe Fonts, and only after you agree to it.

Who is responsible

Payne (in formation), represented by its founders Ali Suleman, Noah Schittenhelm, Colin Ji, Tim Sindelar, Laurenz Thümmler. Contact: hello@payne.so.

This policy covers the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the German TDDDG and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).

Hosting and server logs

The site runs on a server we operate ourselves. When you open a page, the web server records your IP address, date and time, the page requested, the HTTP status, the amount of data sent, the referring page and your browser’s user agent.

We need this to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix errors (legitimate interest, Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Access logs are deleted automatically after at most 5 weeks, error logs after at most 11 weeks.

Cloudflare

Requests to payne.so pass through the network of Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA), which routes traffic to our server and protects it against attacks. Cloudflare processes your IP address and technical request data for this. Legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, reachable site (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Data can be transferred to the USA; Cloudflare covers such transfers under the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Details: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Fonts

Two typefaces are hosted on our own server (Archivo and Bitcount); loading them involves no third party.

Our brand typeface, Transducer, is only available from Adobe Fonts. We load it only after you choose “load font”. Your browser then connects to Adobe’s servers (use.typekit.net, p.typekit.net), which receive your IP address, browser details and the page you are on. Adobe uses this to deliver the font and to count page views for licensing. The provider in the EU is Adobe Systems Software Ireland Ltd., 4–6 Riverwalk, Citywest Business Campus, Dublin 24, Ireland; data may be transferred to Adobe Inc. in the USA. Details: Adobe Fonts privacy.

Legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, § 25 (1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future:

Storage on your device

We store your font choice in your browser’s local storage (payne-font-consent) so we do not ask again. It stays until you clear your browser data and is never sent to us. This is strictly necessary to respect your choice (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG).

Only team members who log in to the team area receive a session cookie (payne_team), valid for 14 days. We set no other cookies.

Email

If you write to hello@payne.so, we use your address and message only to answer you (Art. 6 (1) (b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them once the matter is settled, unless we must keep them by law.

Papers and links

Papers are served from our own server and displayed in your browser; downloads are not tracked. Links to LinkedIn, Hack-Nation or arXiv only transfer data once you click them; from then on, those sites’ own policies apply.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and data portability, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and withdraw consent (Art. 7 (3), 15–18, 20, 21 GDPR). You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority. Under the FADP you have the right of access and correction, and can turn to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@payne.so.
